Disk visualization programs let you see graphically what is stored on your computer. It is a great way to find out what files are taking up a large portion of your hard drive. I'll be comparing two free programs:
I'll be comparing them on the following features:
- Speed - WinDirStat took approximately double the time to analyze the hard drive on my laptop. WINNER: SpaceMonger
- User Interface - WinDirStat has a much more professional look compared to SpaceMonger. WINNER: WinDirStat
- Memory Usage - SpaceMonger uses less memory than WinDirStat. While I was using both programs WinDirStat used at most about 13 MB compared to 10 MB for SpaceMonger. WINNER: SpaceMonger
- Usage and Features - SpaceMonger did a better job of seeing what was taking up space on the drive when looking at a glance. However, SpaceMonger lacks features that are included in WinDirStat including the ability to view files by type and select individual files. WINNER: WinDirStat
- Future Development - WinDirStat is open source and SpaceMonger was freeware but now has been purchased by 65 Software Inc and as a result only the old 1.X version will remain free but will not be developed further. WINNER: WinDirStat
OVERALL WINNER: WinDirStat
In terms of sheer speed and quickness SpaceMonger is better, but based on the extra features, better GUI, and future development of WinDirStat it is my choice.

Any other good free or paid disk visualization programs out there?
I normally don't do the funny cat youtube video thing but since I like The Exorcist....
Thought I would try and add a picture to the blog. Vox has built in support for adding pictures from Flickr and itwas pretty easy to do. Here is a picture of Christopher at the Didsbury, AB school playground. He always likes to have his picture taken. This was from my old Nokia 3600 camera phone.
